Listening to Your Body
Have you ever been on the verge of being sick and still made the decision to go out and have fun when you know you should have stayed in? What about when it comes to working out of physical activity. Did you have a sore knee and decide to "tough it out," only to regret it later?
Our bodies are constantly sending us signals. They send us physical signals that let us know that something is wrong. If we chooes to ignore it, we can pay the price dearly. But if you learn to listen to your bodies and tune into what's going on, you can learn a lot about not just your physical well being, but yourself and how you're living your life. When you feel something in your physical body, it is simply a physical manifestation of something else going on. This might be an mental or emotional issue coming to the surface and manifesting itself physically.
Let's take headaches for example. Headaches aren't a condition, like a disease or disability. Headaches are a symptom of an underlying issue. When my clients get headaches, I always ask them a few questions:
- Have you been drinking enough water regularly?
- Have you been extra stressed out lately?
- Have you been overworking or staring at a screen for a long time?
- Have you been drinking a lot of alcohol?
The cause of the headache can be from any number of things. But the underlying principle is that you aren't taking care of yourself in one or more ways and it's manifesting itself as pressure in your brain. That's the worst! If you answered yes to any of the questions, I invite you to look at the lifestyle choices you are making and your daily habits.
As a trainer and someone who put's a lot of attention their body and works with many different people's bodies on a daily basis, I've learned that tuning into my physical well being reveals many other things about myself and my lifestyle. When I've looked deeper into what's causing the physical symptoms, I've become more aware of myself and made better decisions that have benefited not only my health, but my overall well-being.
I am a man with high ambition, energy, and dreams. But I can only achieve my vision, dreams, and reach my potential if I'm taking care of myself on all levels: physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. My body is a wonderful tool and indicator to other areas of my overall health and well being.
I invite you to pay attention to your body and listen to it! Use your intuition and don't question your instincts. You truly know what is best for you if you can be silent and listen to yourself.
